Three-letter monograms offer expanded possibilities. In the past, most women chose to have their first, middle, and last initials embroidered. Today, a popular choice are the initials of a couple''s first names, along the initial of their last name.

In early times, they were so rare and expensive that only the very wealthy could afford them, so linens were guarded zealously. In many households, linen inventories were meticulously kept in handwritten lists and regularly attended to by a dedicated staff. Fortunately, linens are no longer so rare or costly anymore, yet for us at Gracious Style, they are no less precious. Ultimately, we love linens because they are so personal. What should I look for in finer linens?

I have several leaves for my table. How long should my tablecloth be? If the table is extended and shortened often, separate tablecloths should be purchased to fit each size. If this is not possible, we recommend several solutions. The first one is to buy a cloth that fits the size of table that is used most often, and purchasing affordable banquet cloths (see our Regency collection) for larger affairs. Another solution is to simply buy a cloth to fit the largest table, and use it at all times. A third possibility is to purchase a series of smaller square tablecloths, each of which can be draped diagonally over the table.
